Character of God Diagrams
Character of God diagrams – diagrams and images that illustrate key concepts can better help us understand what He is like. This page displays the major diagrams used on various pages of this site collected into one place for your convenience. Many less-significant diagrams and images are not included.
Below each image is a short description and a link to the page where more details can be found.
The images are in no particular order.

Three Categories of Sin
When it says in Hebrews 4:15 that Jesus “was in all points tempted like as we are…” the “all points” are referring to the three major categories of sin. It can also be seen that the flesh, eyes and tongue consuming away as mentioned in Zechariah 14:12 is not literal although it is connected to the end-time judgment of sin.

Two Models of the Gospel
There are two quite different ways of understanding Gods laws that have a great effect on our relationship with Him. God’s laws are either imposed upon us or they are given for our blessing and protection. Is God a dictator requiring strict obedience or is He our protector/provider always concerned more for our good than His own? Which model best fits “God is love”?

Moses Turns God Down
An example of God’s accommodation for man. God is respectful of our needs, wants, desires and fears as in this case where Moses essentially said “no” to God.

A Significant Name Change
A “ha” was added to Abram to get Abraham. An “h” was added to Sarai to get Sarah. “Hah” because they laughed. And the “I” (indicating I can do it myself) was removed from Sarai as well.

God and Free Will
God allows us to go our own way (even away from Him) but He also allows the natural consequences of such decisions to come to us. Stepping outside of His protection leaves you exposed. However, you are always free to turn back to God and His protection.

Three Levels of Sin
We will never be able to clean up our outward acts of sin (the mess on the floor) unless we first renew our minds (the overflowing sink) which cannot but express what is in the heart which, in turn, is influenced by our concept of God’s character.

Roman’s 7 Paul’s Reaction
This diagram helps to sort out what Paul said in a difficult part of scripture. His reactions make sense when you understand what he was reacting to and where his reaction was happening.

Parallels to a Computer
How are you like a computer? Your body is the hardware, your mind is the software and your breath supplies the equivalent of electric power. God made man with body and mind and turned him on (alive) by adding the breath of life.

Renewing the Mind
Our minds are shaped by what comes in via our senses but also by the thoughts we think. The conscious mind is where we can choose to let a thought or any other input in or to keep it out. Train and exercise your power of choice.

The Cleansing Process
God’s word is truth which transforms the life allowing the Holy Spirit to guide into further truth. It is a cycle of growing into Christ’s likeness – developing a character like His.

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
This shows how, when an understanding and appreciation of God’s perfect love comes into the mind, any fear we might have of Him (and anything else?) is driven out.

John the Baptist wasn’t Ranked Very Highly
“Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” (Matthew 11:11)
It is surprising to learn that John the Baptist was said to not be in the kingdom of heaven. But we can be when we understand what that means and apply the principles of the kingdom in our own lives.

Romans 5:9-10
This passage makes the distinction between the sudden paradigm shift in our understanding of and relationship with God and the more long-term healing that happens as a result.

Intercessor Roles
If the Father is also interceding for us (Romans 8:34) that changes the picture. With a full understanding, we see an interesting reversal of roles.

Your Lens Determines What You See
We need to understand the actions of God in the Old Testament based on the life of Jesus, not on our own preferences or ideas or the say-so of others. (See 2 Corinthians 3:14) And it helps to have the right word meanings.

The Hedge of Protection
God does not forsake us but we can step out from under his protection and He honors our free will choice to do that. Then we are open to the enemies attacks but always welcome by God to come back to Him.

Correcting the Mistranslations in Deuteronomy 2:15
Considering original word meanings and context, one change at a time is made in this verse showing that God’s goal is our repentance and salvation not the destruction of sinners. It was all God trying to bring the rebellious in Israel to repentance for 40 years.

The Conscience in Two Models
A simplified comparison of the role of the conscience in both the Traditional Legal Model and the Biblical Healing Model of the gospel. Are you grateful for God’s free forgiveness or scared of His wrath?

Layers of God’s Law
Each layer is meant to expand on and guard the layer above it. Believing and appreciating that God is love makes keeping all of the law easier. Jesus added details to the bottom layer in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5-7.

Remove the “yod” from man and you get fire.
Remove the “hey” from woman and you get fire.
Combine the “yod” and the “hey” and you get “Yah” the poetic short form of Yahweh.
The fire comes not from God or His presence but in His absence.

What Does “muwth, muwth” Really Mean?
There is a big difference between “surely die” and “surely be put to death.”

We Have Two Minds
God is seeking, with our cooperation, to cleanse both our conscious and unconscious minds. When even your subconscious mind is cleansed you will fully reflect God’s character.

Does God Kill?
His laws are not arbitrarily-imposed rules requiring Him to use His power to inflict punishment. Rather, they are natural design laws – the laws that reality functions upon and breaking them produces natural negative consequences.

Psychological Projection in the Bible
People will often project their own faults and negative feelings onto others; like thinking others are as bad as me so I don’t have to feel so bad

A God of Love?
What many believe (according to the doctrines they hold) but they don’t think of this enough to see the contradiction with the fundamental truth that God is love.
