While this web site attempts to include sources from a wide range of Christian persuasions, you may notice references to quite a number of Seventh-day Adventist sources. That is largely because of the fairly-unique Great Controversy theme that has featured largely in their theology. That understanding helps answer those big questions like “why is there so much suffering in the world?” “why doesn’t God prevent tragedies?” On many of the web sites and in the writings of SDA authors you will see references to various early church pioneers. While such writers have often provided useful commentary on the scriptures, this web site strives, as much as possible, to focus on the Bible as the final authoritative word in understanding what God is really like.

Pastor Bill Chambers wrote an excellent book on the plan of salvation called “The Healing Model.” I actually learned of the book from Dr. Jennings’ recommendation.

I read Bill Chamber’s book – thank you for sending me a copy. You can see above that I added Bill as a contributor. His book does cover the Healing Model very well.

I was very moved in learning how the two opposing principles in the two trees in the Garden of Eden can enhance Biblical application of “precept upon precept” in the books Demonization of God Unmasked and God is Not a Killer by authors Ozzie and Denice Grant.

Wow! How have I missed this resource for so long? This is refreshing, to find a site that crosses so many artificial boundaries and links together in one place resources that often seem isolated or sometimes even competitive with each other. Thank you so much for putting this together. I will definitely add this to my list of recommendations to those interested in learning about this vital subject more deeply. May God bless this and multiply the light pouring into this world as the angel from Revelation 18 outshines any of our meager reflections of that glory.

Thank you, Floyd for your comment. I am attempting to include as contributors those who are making significant contributions to advancing our understanding of God’s character regardless (within limits) of their denominational affiliation or beliefs on other doctrines. We need to work together and learn from each other – there is so much involved in understanding God. One area is the topic of God’s vengeance. I read your excellent article http://biblicalconcepts.blogspot.ca/2017/05/vengeance.html
and would recommend it highly.

Ray’s Note: I am posting this response by Val Cruwys to Floyd’s article. I shortened it by omitting a lengthy discussion of the Ten Commandments and have inserted some of my own comments (in red) within it.
Thank you Val for your response. You made some good points. I have inserted a few comments in red for clarification of the position of this website.
Hi Floyd, This is my 1st time on this website and it is wonderful to see. Anyway this is a study I did quite recently in Dec 2018. It is not as in depth as your study never- the- less I purposely did it to give out to the man on the street to get them thinking.

THE DAY OF THE LORD’S VENGEANCE
Vengeance. What a worrying word! Most people think of vengeance as returning something hurtful to another person for doing something hurtful to them. Or as we commonly say, getting back at some-one for what they have done to you and feeling justified in doing so. This happens all over the world. And because we think like this we have brought God down to our sinful level and think of God as dealing with man the same way. But God’s thoughts are not man’s thoughts nor His ways our way. (Isa 55: 8-9) For we find that Christ died for sinful man taking upon himself all men’s sins (He took our sinful nature (Rom 8:3, Phil 2:8, Heb 2:7,14) and overcame sin in that nature. He did not die to pay a penalty imposed by God. Sin itself causes death, not God. Any negative repercussions from acts of sin occur as a natural consequence of design law.) and died because of those sins so that man would not have to die the second death for his own sins as long as man accepted the fact that Christ had died this death for their sins. When a person accepts Christ for what He has done for him, repents and is baptized, Christ can make that person a new creature with different and better values than they had before. You will not want to do or think the way you used to do nor will you want to. What has this got to do with God’s vengeance you may be asking? Well maybe another question should be asked. Why would the Lord want to take vengeance on sinful man when He has died for them? It just doesn’t make sense. (Very good point! It is like if we really loved someone and offered to do them a great kindness and then turned around and killed them because they did not accept our offer. What does that do to the concept of a God of love Who does not change?) So what exactly is The Lord’s vengeance? The Lord’s vengeance is not against sinful man but against “SIN” itself. It has always been that way.
God is calling to everyone to come unto Him to be saved. We have all been given the opportunity in our lifetime to accept what The Lord has done for us. Those who don’t want to take advantage of the merciful act offered them and who want to continue to live in those sins will at the end of days when vengeance will destroy sin will be so overwhelmed by the memory of their sins which they have fostered and developed into their own character that death to them will be a sweet release from the terrible realization of what they have become. But death will not come to them until every last sin is consumed within them. Satan will also suffer the same way (Eze 28:18-19)For our God is a consuming fire to sin (Heb 12:29 and Deut 4:24) and sin cannot live in God’s Presence or in Heaven ([Isa 33:14) Sin is a curse to us all.
What a sad state of affairs that will be, but it is not too late now to get rid of sins in our lives before that event takes place. All man has to do, is to ask Christ to forgive him of the sins committed and make a sincere covenant with the Lord by Baptism, to follow His ways from then on and they will have their name written in the book of life. If after baptism some hereditary sin is revealed in you to overcome or if the sin comes about from an outside source, ask the Lord to forgive you and to take that desire away so that you will not sin that sin again and He will answer your prayer of sincerity. For Christ is our advocate before His Father in heaven and will plead our case for us. (We need to be clear here that it is not as though Christ is trying to get the Father to change His mind regarding us. The Father Himself loves us (John 16:27) and wants us to be saved as much as His Son does. Jesus is our advocate “with the Father.” It is “with” in the sense that they are both pleading for us. It is incorrect to put Father against Son. They plead and intercede “with” (in the sense of in opposition to) the principalities and powers that war against us, with our own sinful tendencies and with forces of nature itself that would harm us.) It is in this life before we die the common death of man that we are all under probation. When that probation closes whatever Character we have developed by that time in our lives here, will determine whether our name is written in the book of life. Do you know what sin is or what constitutes sin? Sin is transgression of the law of God, the 10 commandments.
The 10 commandments in the beginning of time weren’t in written form but were common knowledge. Adam and Eve knew what sin was for we are told that they sinned and hid themselves from God and felt guilty. Babies don’t sin until they reach an age of understanding of what is right and what is wrong. Baptism is not for babies; it is only for those who are mature enough to understand and decide whether to be or not to be a Follower of Christ. John the Baptist only baptized adults. Christ will not force you to become a Christian; He has given us all a free will to choose one way or another. Force or demand is of the devil. After Israel’s 400yrs of slavery, and living in Egypt, the knowledge of God was almost totally obliterated. So to give the people a visible sign and to verify to them who He was He said in [Exo 20:2] ‘I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt’, then He gave written evidence and wrote on stone tablets with His own finger the 10 commandments and gave the tablets to Moses on Mt Sinai.
These 10 rules of life are for all people in all ages. They have not been done away with, as some have seduced man into believing not to do as God says. For in the Bible we find, “We are to obey God rather than man (Acts 5:29) and “If you love me, keep my commandments” says the Lord. (John 14:15) and Christ himself said “I am not come to destroy the Law” (Matt 5:17-18). Wicked or lawless people won’t accept any law they just do what they think is right in their own eyes and they are proud of that independent attitude. “Who is God that I should obey Him” was the cry of Pharaoh of old and is also of many people today. Christ came to this earth to show us the character of His Father in Heaven. Not once did He kill, instead He brought life to people, physically and spiritually, and He told them to sin no more. It is still the same message we have today, for He Loves us and always has and is willing that none should perish but that all should come to repentance and live. (1 Peter 3:9)

I find it so refreshing to see such beautiful depictions and views of our loving God. I have enjoyed Dr. Graham Maxwell’s writing and lectures and books by Dr. Jennings. My grandfather HMS Richards had a beautiful view of God also. I loved to hear him talking about his best friend as if they were roommates.

Wow! I feel so relieved to know this site exists! … I have believed in the healing model of Salvation, and growing in a better understanding of the character of God for awhile now. However, I had found a few resources to share with others; like the works of Dr Graham Maxwell or Dr Alden Thompson. Thank you so much for this comprehensive list of resources on this topic. A tremendous asset to the final work of sharing the rest of the ‘Good-News’. The world needs to hear more about the lovely Character of God in these dark perilous times.
