Note: the consuming was by the hand of King Nebuchadnezzar. God merely allowed it to happen as the rebellious Jews would not turn to Him and His protection. The same would be true for the previous two verses. It is clear that the sword and famine were from the Babylonian’s siege and warfare. It is important to know what punishment from God means.

“But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.” (Jer 44:18)

Note: in this verse, the people are connecting their problems to the time they were not burning incense to the queen of heaven. Popular belief in ancient cultures was that not appeasing a god would result in that god’s displeasure and punishment. Therefore, they were crediting their misfortunes to punishment from the queen of heaven.

Summary

There are no cases (in 64 occurrences) where anyone is clearly being killed by God. Of the six cases where the word could mean destroyed or killed, one is in the negative (which would actually reduce the number to five). The verse most likely, according to common understanding, to indicate a killing by God would be Deuteronomy 2:15 which has been carefully examined on this website and shown not to mean that.

The classification is obviously subject to some interpretation. You can check that for yourself in each verse.
